De La Ghetto
Latin Trap
Pioneer
Rafael Castillo Torres — known worldwide as De La Ghetto — is one of the true pioneers of Latin urban music. Born in New York, raised in Puerto Rico, and built for the world stage, he has spent two decades at the forefront of reggaeton and Latin trap. La Familia Smile captured him live in Argentina — and the footage says everything.
De La Ghetto is not just an artist who has been around for a long time. He is one of the architects of what Latin urban music sounds like today. From his early days as one half of the influential duo Arcángel & De la Ghetto — formed in 2004 and one of the most important partnerships in reggaeton history — to his solo career that pushed the genre into new sonic territory, his fingerprints are on some of the most important music of the last two decades.
Heavily influenced by American hip-hop and R&B, De La Ghetto was one of the first artists to champion the Latin trap movement — blending the rhythm and swagger of New York hip-hop with the pulse of Puerto Rican urban music long before the term "Latin trap" existed. He was ahead of his time, and the genre eventually caught up with him.
Two Decades of Breaking Ground
The Arcángel & De la Ghetto era was formative for an entire generation of Latin music fans. Their chemistry, their sound, and their impact on the reggaeton underground laid the groundwork for everything that came after. When De La Ghetto launched his solo career in 2006 and released Massacre Musical in 2008, he proved that the duo was not a ceiling — it was a launchpad.
His solo catalogue has earned him two Latin Grammy nominations — one for Best Urban Music Album for Mi Movimiento, and one for Best Urban Song for "Caliente" featuring J Balvin. Collaborations with Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, and Rauw Alejandro have kept him at the centre of the conversation as the genre has evolved. And his 2023 independent album GZ showed an artist who is still pushing, still experimenting, and still absolutely in command of his craft.
"De La Ghetto was doing Latin trap before Latin trap had a name. Two Latin Grammy nominations, two decades of releases, and a catalogue that has shaped the sound of an entire genre. Filming his show in Argentina was a reminder of exactly how deep that legacy runs."
La Familia Smile x De La Ghetto
When De La Ghetto performed in Argentina, La Familia Smile was there to capture it. A crowd that felt the history behind every track, a performance that delivered the full weight of a career built on authenticity and innovation, and an atmosphere that only South American Latin music fans can create.
This is what La Familia Smile does — put a lens on the moments that matter, in the places where Latin music hits hardest, and make sure the world gets to see it.
